Acrylic Paintings on Mylar

Treedogpress Studio is located in Woody Creek, Colorado, this is where I spend most of my time painting. I have 3 different series using acrylic paintings on Mylar. For my process, I use acrylic paint and a binding medium that I mix and paint on a 1.5 ply piece of Mylar. I first start with a line drawing using FW acrylic ink, then begin the painting process for the next 6 layers. Along the way, I like to use rubber stamps and brayers that I have cut patterns into. When the painting is done I crop and I mount onto a stretched canvas with a warm yellow ochre hue that comes through the image. I hinge the paintings on the canvas with copper & brass nails and run a strip of batina’d copper on the bottom edge. This holds the Mylar down and allows it to breath. I work on a 40” x 60” piece of Mylar then cut individual images down, depending on content and imagery.

“Woody Creek & Lower River Road”, are two subject matters influenced from aerial views and siteings from the road, along the Roaring Fork Valley in the Woody Creek area. Combined with images ranging from ranch fencing, rolled hay bales, the old Rio Grande railroad tracks and the Roaring Fork river.

“Garden series” is a series influenced from landscape and garden designs that I have done over the years. Images vary from orchids and poppies, circular gardens with planters and winter berries.

“Desert Landscapes” is a series of paintings influenced from desert gardens and landscapes. I'm facinated with all the amazing flowering plants that live in the desert. My images are mainly influenced from my travels to Utah, Arizona and New Mexico.
